Enter License key in Desktop version without Server installed

Hi,

Is it possible to enter License Key in Personal Edition without Server being installed.

The requirement is: Customer is planning to buy Qlikview Enterprise edition server. However it might take 3 months or even more to Install Qlikview Server.

Meanwhile they would like to Enter this License key in the Personal Edition so that it becomes Licensed and users can share their dashboards until Server is installed.

But is it any Mandatory requirement that, though licenses has been bought, still Qlikview Server has to be installed, so that License key can be entered in the Personal edition.

Regards,

Avin

Talk to a qlik partner near by you. There is a possibility they can provide you with a temporary development license or a proper developer license (if that option is still available - couple of years back it was there).

As per my knowledge, you can enter license key in your desktop client before installing Server and start opening files created by other users. However, if you need to open files in server, then you need to lease license from the server.

Did you contact Qlik support team about this?

Hi Kranthi,

Thanks. Say we got Named CAL license, as could understand from documentation,

license can be obtained only via License Leasing method..License key would be just a single key, where by it needs to be added in Qliview management console..

Then in System-> License-> CALS need to add user by user ids there..

So if we dont have he Qlikview server above could not be done. However will give a try if this single license key can be included in personal edition directly...Doing so will there be any other impact..Say we got for example 10 Named license, at later point in time when server is installed, during that time how this manually added (before server installation) would be considered.

Thanks,

Avin

You can enter a server license serial and control number in the QV Desktop license dialog, but they won't do anything as they work only for QlikView Server. A QV Desktop can only be licensed with a Local Client license (different license) or by leasing a Named CAL from a QlikView server.

What you can do is obtain permission to install the QVS and QMS services on a temporary server (an old Windows box, or a server with some spare room) and start distributing Named CALs from there (without publishing documents and without AccessPoint). Later on, you can uninstall the services and install them on the final platform.

Thanks all. So the way it looks, need to have Qlikview server installed or check with vendor if still they can provide this local license.
