Evaluate an expression in a Straight Table column without fieldvalue()

Hi

I can't work out why I can't evaluate an expression in a straight table column without using fieldvalue.

In the attached ExpressionCalc.QVW I have three tables - in the 'working table' I can evaluate the expression in the 'ExprV' field as I would like to.  This is a straight table with one row, rotated on its side with the Horizontal checkbox.  The expression used is:

=$(= SUBFIELD(fieldValue('ExprV' ,1),'|',2))

ExprV holds expressions prefixed with 'Q' and a number - representing a question number - which are both added to provide uniqueness so that fieldvalue returns the correct value.

Table 2 shows the ExprV as is in the table

Table 3 shows the ExprV as is without the 'Q' prefix - this is the expression I want to evaluate, as in the working table, and not show as the text which it currently does.
