Excel to Table formatting issues

I currently have a pivot table that is being populated directly from an Excel spreadsheet.  A column in the spreadsheet which I am bringing in as a field ([YTD]) has several different formatted numbers in it (i.e. percent, currency, general).  When I bring this field into the pivot table object the formatting does not mirror Excel, some numbers are $ and others are % when they shouldn't be.  Should every cell in Excel be set to "General"?

By setting the format on the cells in Excel to "Text" I was able to mirror the exact formatting in the pivot table within QVW
