Hi Experts,
Could you please let me know how to give estimation to a project. I mean typical time duration to create a Dashboard present in below link , right from requirement gathering till building the complete qlikview document(QVW) file(not security and deployment).
Regards,
Suraj
Hi, Suraj.
Erik is correct. You will need to break it down as projects estimates are never straight forward. Often you get a feel for it through experience, especially if it is small and self contained.
There will always be some things out of your control which you may need to consider:
Are the requirements from the user clear and precise ?
Is the data readily available ? How big is it ?
Are any of the requirements a challenge to replicate in QlikView ?
Are the servers up to the task ?
Are there users available to do testing ?
Always build in some time for the users to review the work and contingency for the unexpected.
Regards,
Neil.
I prefer to start with the requirement gathering.
By talking to the customer you'll get a sense of the complexity of the project.
Afterwards make a complete list of everything that needs to be done.
For example
Build dashboard
Add 8 listboxes
Add text box overall claim rate
Add graph claim rate by age
Add graph claim rate by ...
Time needed for these tasks are easier to estimate.
By showing all these small tasks you'll also give insight in the scope of the project.

Hey Dude,
It's like saying how many pieces of string do you need to reach the moon. You only need one if its long enough.
Time to draft a specification for functional and user requirements has dependencies on the POC for those respective areas. The problem is and you will find this a lot with consulting work, is that delays come in not from the developers side but from business. You will reschedule meetings for the same agenda on numerous occasions just to get the right people in the room to tell you what you need to know.
Lets make a caveat and say that everyone supporting the development of that dashboard has provided you will the right specification and data. Can you quantify how much more efficient and effective Person A would be compared to Person B? No you can't!
There is no exact science to providing a project time frame. There are techniques and certain assumptions that can be made, but what you need to ask yourself is why you are being asked.
More often than not, you need to set and meet the expectations of your customer. Build some 'fat' into your assumptions and always try and deliver within budget and time. If you are able to get the expectations right and know you have left enough time to potentially finish the project within budget, you will make your customer very happy
Thanks for all the inputs from everyone.
@Erik- Could you please let me know what time needed for building the objects you mentioned in your example.
I only want the typical time to create them, I understand that it varies based on complexity.

Suraj
