Hi All,
I would like to check whether hard disk size would vary between environments(Dev,QA and Prod)?
Can please let me know if there is any ready reckoner to calculate the Hard disk size for each environment.
If we consider 500 MB for file size, what could be the Hard disk size we can take and consider. Kindly suggest,
Difficult to say. Does your file size estimate include the data stages?
Prod and QA will probably be the same. Dev is a multiple of Prod, probably multiplied by the number of developers and depending on whether you allow sandbox development.
You should also take into account that the file size now may be about 500Meg, but what about tomorrow, next week, next month, next year? Do you plan to add disks as soon as you run out of space? Or do you want to include a margin for expected environment growth?
Best,
Peter
Hello,
Thanks for your response,
Currently we are dealing with only excel files and txt files as the source data and may come below 1 GB or max 1.5 GB.When we consider this file size, if I mention Hard disk space as 250 GB for all the environments, will the size be considered too much when comes to data level increase as forecast?
I don't know. The "data level increase as forecast" is different for every customer. QlikView does not dictate what you will be doing with it in a year or two. You (for new developments) and your data sources (for production documents) do. Or your customer does. Take your time to make decent estimates and make a plan for your environment and its expected growth.
If you plan to order server machines as well, check which HDD set-ups are cost-effective. Let's assume that a RAID array of 250GB is the standard, then both smaller as well as larger disks may prove to be more expensive.

Hello,
Thanks for the update. When we are considering the usage of Qlikview Publisher, how does the consideration for Hard disk space takes place? Will 250 GB be worth or reducing to 50 - 100 GB would suffice as the source data would be between 1-10 GB.
Will you be using a physical or virtual machine ?
If physical then the standards discs server now come with will probably be way more than you need. As mentioned above by Peter a RAID array, maybe RAID 5 over 3 discs, would give you resilience against a single disc failure.
Hello Bill/Peter
We are going to install Servers in Virtual machines. and the environments would be installed separately(Dev,QA and Prod).we would be installing two publishers as well one for QA and one for Prod.Considering these points,Kindly provide me the visibility.
Hello ,
Would like to check with you if we have any matrix for confirming Hard Disk Space required based on the file size considering Server and Publisher. Can please provide me.
for eg : 500 MB file size = ?? Hard Disk
1 GB File Size = ?? Hard Disk
Thanks for the Help !!!
