Help understanding drill-down group

Hi all

Sorry for the very basic question, and I have searched for the answer, honestly!

I have created a drill down group which is office name and staff name.  I have a table set up showing various expressions by office and my plan is to have the table switch to staff name and show all the staff within the selected office.

At the moment, all that happens is the sheet is filtered by the office you select.

I am sure I am missing something very straight forward, and sorry again for the silly question!

Thanks

Hi,

Drill down group will select that particular Office if you click on it. this is the default behavior.

simple example

Geo -> Country -> State -> City

On clicking the Geo data particular value will be selected and drilled down to Country level .

Hope this helps.

Sorry, I still don't really understand.  Does that mean I cant do the drill down by office as the default is to select it as a filter, or have I just set up the group incorrectly?

Drill down group will select the particular value.

If you want to view particular office details then on clicking on that it should select that Office. if you clear the selection it will come back to its original top layer.

No grouping incorrect. That is Drill down group behavior.

If you want to view all the office details then you should use Cycle group. But here you cant identify which staff is from which office.

When I click on say, "London", all that happens is the table changes and only shows "London" on one line with a Total.  In other words, it doesn't do anything except remove all the other offices.  What I want it to do is when I click on London, it changes dimension to 'Staff' and shows the staff relevant to "London".

That is my understanding of a drill down.

I suppose what I need to know is, is my understanding wrong or is my workbook wrong?!

Thanks

Hi Paul,

Drill down group:

For example if you create group with office name and Staff Name and then used in a table instead of dimension

Initially the Table shows  all the data belongs to Office Name(Dimension), When ever you click on any one of the Category from Office Name, Then the table show for Staff Name(Dimension) , Staff Name Data Corresponds to that specific category selected in Office Name.

First  Displays :  Office Name  -- >if u select any Category -->Staff Name Data Appears(Only for category selected in Office Name)

In Cyclic Group, it has list of Dimension like Office Name and Staff Name, You can either select Office Name or Staff Name. You Cannot Get any Hire achy in Cyclic Group.

Hope This Helps..!

Ah ha.  Then I have done something wrong!

Here is an example of my table.,

And here's what happens when I click on it

Where I would expect to see the names of the staff who work in Bristol!

Any ideas what could be wrong?
