Help with Set Analysis on dates

I am trying to look at historical dates as of a certain point in time.  We have a rec_end_date and a rec_start_date.  My set Analysis looks at the Max rec_end_date without issue but when I try to then reduce the data down to a less than or equal to start date it just does nothing in the pivot table.  I am using a calendar object with a button to set the variable for vD_Date. 

sum ({<rec_end_date={'$(=Max(rec_end_date))'}, REC_START_DATE = {"<=$(=Date(vD_Date)"}>}[Actual Hrs])

Can you provide sample app?

I figured it out missing a ) after the vD_Date.  With Quotes around that set of code the colors are not available and just missed it.
