Hide "Open in Server" tab

Hi all,

Is there a way to hide "Open in Server" tab from user?

There are files in the QlikView server that i do not want the user to access to, but by going thru "Open in Server" tab, they can actually access to those files. Is there a way, such that via "Open in Server", the user need to enter the password before they are allow to see those files available in the Server?

Even better if I can allow user to see only the "Favorites" tab only.

Regards,

Say Chao

You need to seriously rethink about this. If you need real security it's always wrong to try implementing security solutions by hiding stuff (urls, features etc) for the user. You need to set real access rights to your data instead. The short answer to your question; no, you can't hide the open in server feature in QlikView.

If you need to protect your QlikView files there is only one way to do it and that is by using a real security system like NTFS. This is very easy and QlikView fully supports it. One way to do it is to disable anonymous access on the QlikView Server and then use the regular windows file security on the server side QlikView files. Ofcourse, there are a numbers of ways to achieve this and it also depends on how your network environment is configured....

Never ever implement a security solution that gives a false impression of security. Do it the right way instead. It will be worth it, I promise.

Hi,

if you organize your appliations in directories, you may assign rights for the directories (under Windows) and thus certain directories will not be visible for unauthorized users.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply.

My problem is actually due to the File URL being display on the Favorites tab. I want to hide the File URL from the user so that they can not access the Server to reach those files. So since i do not know how to hide the File URL (http://community.qlik.com/forums/t/15905.aspx) on the Favorites tab, i want to hide the "Open in Server", so that the user cannot access the server manually.

I cannot block user access to directories via Rights assignment because the Favorites file links that appear on the tab depend on the user that logon, so there are chances that the user might be allow to see the current blocked file in near future. If this case happen, i would need to change the directories Rights assignment.

Hi,

Or is there a way to set password, such that when user click on "Open", password must be entered so that they can access the server files?
