How to: scatter chart with color indicating normal distribution?

I apologize for the question title but I couldn't figure out a better one.

I have stores and sales totals. I would like to plot them in a scatter chart (on a map) and the dots should be one of three colors:

Green = top 33%

Yellow = Middle

Red = Bottom 33%

I already have the map part done and stores show up correctly. I need your help figuring our how to color-code them based on their individual total sales. Would you please help me? What I envision is having 120 stores, 40 of those will be in each color.

Thanks!
