How to set curent selected field value as a variable value

Hi everyone...

Can anyone please help me out with this.

I have a Pivot Chart with material ID as a Dimension and various expressions regarding its price, Built of Material etc.

also have an  input box  with a variable  MAT1

I want to set the Variable to a value of currentselection. ie if I select any value of the field material ID ..eg m101 then the variable should get the same as value.

ie MAT1=m101

I started trying out with document settings ->triggers-> on field event ..but not able to... .

also tried setting the variable MAT1= getcurrentselection(material ID)

Any Suggessions???
