IE Plugin or AJAX?

Hi All,

I have to deploy my Apps to PROD environment. Before that during the performance testing, noticed that while oepning the Apps from Access Point in AJAX mode, lot of QV features are missing. EX: Minimizing a open chart, Export to Excel format etc.

Also a couple of Sheets are taking much time to reload, MultiBox values are taking a lot time to display the values etc. where there are not much records that it would take time.

However testing the app in IE Plugin Mode, it works faster. All the sheets open up very smoothly and lot other QV functionalities works better.

Could anyone please let me know in whcih case what Plugin to use? Is it better to use IE plugin every time? For this Users have to install the IE Plugin on their respective machines.

Regards!!!

Hi,

As a general rule of thumb, I'd always and only use Ajax instead of Plugin. However, there are cases where Plugin needs to be used, but these cases should be based on funcionality or OS compatibility, rather than performance.

As for the functionality, charts do can be minimised in Ajax client, and for sure that excel export works all right, but there are some limitations with macros, which makes sense as long as macros and vbscript are OS sensitive, therefore browser sensitive, and the idea is to give the most for all clients, regardless the flavor users have.

We know that there have been releases of 11 with performance problems, something that the current release 11.20 SR3 12018 has fixed.

On the other hand, reloads have nothing to do with Plugin or Ajax, but with the QlikView Desktop or Server environment.

So first make sure why those Ajax issues happen before moving to another client. Try with a fresh install of this new latest release, test it, get back to us with the results.

To give a direct answer to your question, "when is best to use Plugin?" My answer for version 11 of QlikView is "never, except if there is no other choice, and usually there is".

Hope that helps.

Miguel
