Is it possible to directly extract data from spreadsheets stored in data bases or do the spreadsheets need to be exported first?

I want to integrate data into my QlikView application, that is stored in a spreadsheet, which is stored in a database and changed on a daily basis. Is it possible to directly access the data in this spreadsheet or do I first need to export the spreadsheet from the data base and store is someplace and access it from there?
