License Enabler File missing from licensed user's Windows profile

I have two users who had QV 8 installed and was working fine. I then upgraded them to version 9 SR 1, and they have not been able to open Qlikview documents since. They get the message :

"This Qlikview document was created by another Qlikview Personal Edition user. Since you are using a Qlikview Personal Edition, you may only open files that you created yourself. You may recover the file if you created it on a different computer, but doing so will use one of your 4 remaining recovery attempts. (etc.) "

Both these users have CALs on the server. This problem has persisted for 2 months now. I am pretty sure that this has to do with the fact that I uninstalled their older versions, which removed the lef.txt file, and then installed the new version. I went to each user's machine, and can confirm that the lef.txt files containing their license keys are no longer under Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Qliktech\Qlikview. I understand that the way to get the lef.txt file back on the machine, is to enter the user's license key manually through the Qlikview program (Settings\User Preferences\License\Change), and that the server will check if the user appears on its CAL list and then send the lef.txt file to the machine.

My question is: Is my proposed solution correct (entering the license key manually), and where on the Qlikview server do I get the licence key for each user from?

You would need to use "Open from server" option from menu to borrow a license from server on behalf of your CAL.

Thank you for your response. The problem is that my Qlikview server is different to the server where I store all my Qlikview documents. So if I 'open from server', there are no documents to open.

You can always put "one" dummy qvw on the server and open that one from the server. Once you do that, you have borrowed license for 30 days and can open any document without any problem. Correct me if my understanding is wrong.
