when I select the "XLS" format from File wizard window- it throws an error

" cannot read BIFF file"

Maybe its not really a BIFF file. It could be a csv file named as xls . Just try to open the file in Excel, Save it in a different name and try

May be files are corrupted.

Try by copying the same file to local server to make sure they are not corrupted

Hope you have seen this post

Cant really think as to why you might be getting the error.

Can you download a fresh copy of the file and try again ? and hope there are no restriction set on the files.

How are these excel files generated?
