Plz help to develop a connection string on my local machine

Hi,

I need some help in doing this, I don't have any idea:

- I need to develop a connection string to our company's database so I can use my local machine to retrieve data
(up to now I have always used the string made by a colleague and that only works on the server, so I always have to run
corr. apps in the QMC, so I cannot debug and stuff)

- I don't really know even what type of connection I need.

- The string generated by my colleague starts with >> ODBC CONNECT <<, followed by the source_name in square brackets,
including a > DBQ < and an XUserID and XPassword

When I select >ODBC< in the script_editor, the dialog opens and I have to select the type of my data - dBase or Excel or so - but there

is no possibility to set up the company database as a data_source.

Can anybody help me there?

Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

DataNibbler

Hi Marcus,

that definitely took me a step further - but I'm not done yet.

Firstly, System_DSNs can only be generated with ADMIN privileges on the machine which I don't have, so I will have to contact IT about this.

But before I do so, I'd like to know what they will see. I'll do some more experimenting.
