Hi Team -
We are updating the QV Server and one of the concerns we have is that the user created bookmarks will be deleted unless we save them or export them somehow. Is there a way to export in bulk the user created bookmarks?
On a similar note, I saw that we might be able to use Power Tool to do this, is this true? I have never used power tool before and just wanted to make sure to confirm before I recommend this to my team.
Thanks and regards,
Sunny
There are various things that may help in the Power Tools. Generally though (as mentioned above) Bookmarks and all other objects are kept in the .shared file with the app.
You can move the book marks to another version of the app, by copying and renaming both the app and the shared file.
You can't take just the bookmarks, but there is a Power Tool option to delete other items, so you could remove all but the Bookmarks. Be careful to back things up and test though as you go.
Do you have a migration licence for carrying this out? You should be able to get a free thirty day licence to allow you to carry out parallel testing and the like. Speak to your partner about obtaining one of these.
Good luck!
Steve
I am not sure what you mean by export in bulk, but all the bookmarks are stored in the .shared files.if you have 10 dashboards, you will see 10 .shared files in the folder. For me, easiest is backup the entire folder and then mount that folder later.
Hi Alex -
I appreciate your response. I see what you mean with regards to the copying over the .shared files. Is there a possibility of an issue while transferring them over? Have you successful done this in the past?
Once again thanks for sharing this information.
Best,
Sunny
Please do bear in mind that you will be copying over all the user created objects as well.
Is there a way to just transfer over the bookmarks?
No Problem, Sunny.
The only thing I can think of is that usually the upgrade process for us took months( we have some internal processes that take time). if we backup this folder at day 1, at day 45, the file may have already changed and if you mount the day1 folder, people may complain they lost bookmarks or objects they created. So you may need to back up this folder daily and turn the prod services down the day before you upgrade.
We did not have any problems (to SR11 from SR2) but again we all have different ways setting up our system, so you have to go over this with your admin to see any risks.
Good luck!
Am not aware of any such thing. And - I'd assume even if it were possible, it will be an app by app thing rather than all at once.
Again - my assumption!
