Problems Opening an existing QVW file

I'm using Ver 9.0 Personal Edition. I have created a qvw file using the Personal Edition. However, when opening the qvw file with the Personal Edition, I am prompted that a license key file is missing and the qvw file cannot be opened and I have to use the recovery process to open it (there appears to be some limit on how many times this can be done). (Sorry the prompt is no longer displayed so I don't have the exact message). I'm confused because I created the qvw file within the my Personal Edition and I am opening it within my Personal Edition. I have already performed the recovery a few times within the last few days and only have 2 occurences remaining. Any ideas on why this is occuring? I have spent considerable time creating multiple pages and charts and don't want to have to recreate this.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

hi,

ok so your not able to open your qlikview document. You said that you are using qlikview 9.0 sr3.

so a simple answer to your problem is that you should be entering your serial key to make it licensed.

go to settings- user preferences-license and enter your name and serial key.

after following the above steps you will be able to able your qlikview application on your laptop or whatever with ease and you will be able to develop your applications.

in case you transfer your applications to someone elses laptop then again that other person has to follow the same steps in order to use your application.

Hi Gaurav,

Thanks for the quick response.

Right now as I have yet to purchase Qlikview, I dont have a license key yet. Perhaps I should add I am using the Personal Edition.

Bliz1984,

We have seen this issue a couple of times before but we are having a hard time reproducing it. Which operating system and service pack are you using?

This problem is very specific to some of those who move their machine between office and home...

To those of you who have any problem related to QlikView Personal Edition, make sure you use the latest QlikView service release. We have fixed a number of issues regarding QVPE in the latest service releases. But this "moving computer problem" seems not to be solved yet. Any information regarding this is very valuable.

Hi kjn,

I am currently using Win 7 Pro 32 Bit OS on Dual-Core. For Qlikview I started and am using v9 SR3.

I tried copying my qkw file over to my local hard drive to try and avoid this problem and also did not move my laptop home (although i did unplug from my lan). However this problem surfaced again. I am down to my last recovery and i am afraid to use this up for fear of losing my report format.

Do let me know if you need any further information that may assist you in finding the root cause.

Thanks

After running for several weeks with no problems. I am now experiencing similar problems and am unable to open any previous files created on my laptop. I have reinstalled the current SP4 version with the same results. New files that I create are also unable to be reopened -- receiving the " ... exceeded maximum number of document recoveries allowed .." message.

Please advise, thanks.

Reinstallation might be the problem.

Have a similar problem, although not when switching networks. My company policy is to change passwords every month. Whenever I change my Windows login password, my Qlikview files become incompatible and I am forced to use a recovery attempt. As I am now on my last attempt, I dont really want to use this up if I can avoid it! Any advice is much appreciated.

By way of update, I used my penultimate recovery attempt (for some reason I thought I was already on my last one) yesterday so I could produce my daily report. I thought this would buy me another month before I had to use another one, but I logged on this morning and attempted to load my report, only to be asked to use my last attempt. I'm going to hold my breath and use it, hoping against hope that it doesnt ask me again tomorrow!

As before, any help much appreciated.

There are a couple of us in a Fortune 10 company evalating QlikView and we've really liked it so far but as of yesterday 2 of us are no longer able to access of QVPE files that we were individually working on. I've always been using QVPE 10 (always as in the last week Big Smile ) but my co-worker was on 9 but upgraded to 10 a few days ago. We both installed them on our laptops and move daily between home, office and travel.

I am running Win7 Pro 32-bit and my co-worker is runing XP Pro 32-bit. Between us a lot of time has been invested in this evaluation so we'd really like to know what can be done to get our work back. We were planning on showing our progress to our SAS group tomorrow but will have to postpone this.

I created the QVW file on my home network, went on a business trip, connected to the hotel network and continued working on the file. The next morning, while still connected to the hotel network, the file stopped loading and started giving me the inconsistencies error and refused to load. It wouldn't load at work either and I even tried to fake it out and pretend I am at home by reconfiguring a small home router in the office.

Additionally, I do not see, nor am I presented with any recover option in QVPE 10.

Let me know if anyone has any sugestions!!

Thanks,
Rick

Rick, can you please post a screenshot of the error message. There are many reasons to why a QVPE file may fail to open, so an error message would give me a clue.
