check out what kind of Total you are using for this expression. See: chart properties --> expression --> choose the according expr. --> Total Mode

Yes, it is set to use the expression total.

if this is wrong, try using "function-Mode" (third radio-button) and choose sum(). May be thats it.

Well, that worked for this extracted example but my actual page has several more dimensions so I added each dimension one by one to this example to see if the total would change and it did not. So now I have two pages with the only diff being one has more expressions (columns) but this column is still diff between the two. I am perplexed.

thats what I can do for you so far. When adding more dimensions the virtual cube changes of course and I do not know what you are expecting then. For digging deeper: posting an exam app would be helpful. Then we both and the community can figure out more.
