QVX (QlikView Data Exchange)

Has anyone had any practical experience using qvx for loading data? Reason I am asking is I would like to know what the main idea behind using it is (i.e. as a alternative connecting source. I have read some documentation online, but there does not seem to be any clarity yet.

It seems to be compared to QVD  qutie a bit - which would suggest it being an alternative storage format - but why then use the slower alterntive (being qvx) or could the reason be that because you can update data already stored making data reloads faster overall possibly be a reason.. ?

The main idea is that you can create qvx files in a separate application of your own, unrelated to QlikView. You can do that because the structure of the file is non proprietary and documented. The only way to create qvd files is by writing them out of QlikView. I can't say that we have any practical experience with qvx files yet.
