QlikView Certification Preperation

Good morning my friends:

I am curious if anyone of you has taken the QlikView Developer Certification exam without taking training courses, and if so what materials you used to prepare for the test?

Thanks,
Lior

Fernando:

Thanks for sharing your notes. I took the designer certification a few days ago and passed, other then a year and half of experience and reading the book QlikView for Developers, I did not take any formal training. However, I felt that developer certificate would require a broader skill set and more knowledge.

Good luck with your exam!

Without the formal training you may struggle with some of the terminology used in the exam. However, if you have been using QlikView a lot you may have enough experience to compensate.

The Developer certificate covers a broad range of topics on the desktop tool and data modelling concepts covered in the training so you need to know your stuff.

The test had 50 questions. The following are the categories of questions based on the report that I received after the test:

  • 6 questions about Gathering and Interpreting Requirements
  • 6 questions about Identifying and analyzing data sources
  • 38 questions about designing and developing QlikView application user interface

Difficulty is relative to a person’s skillset and knowledge, but for me personally it was slightly more challenging than I expected – that’s why I am curious what others are doing for the Developer exam

All the questions were multiple choices, generally 4 possible answers. There were maybe 3-4 questions that you needed to select multiple answers. If I recall correctly, I remember many questions were similar to:

  • Syntax (including set analysis) questions that if you know the syntax you should be OK (even if you have a good idea, you can probably eliminate the wrong answers).
  • Questions with images of data model and you had to answer questions such as will you have synthetic keys when you load this data model.
  • Questions about object properties, for example what is the sequence for creating an action.

Thanks for the feedback David, based on your answer I suspect that you took the training course?

Yep! Designer, Developer and Administrator. All of them worth every penny for a QlikView all-rounder. I wouldn't bother with the administrator course if you aren't going to be doing installs and/or system configuration.

I highly recommend the courses to give you the best possible foundation for then moving into building your own QlikView apps. I liken the courses to driving lessons where you learn to control the car and basic navigating of the roads, then you go out solo in the real world and learn to DRIVE! Same applies to the courses teaching you how to control QlikView so when you hit real world systems, data and end-user requirements you are equipped with the basics that you can apply.

David: I agree with your statement completely that the training would be very beneficial for anyone working or planning to work with QlikView. Unfortunately, I don't have the training budget and have to make do with alternative educational resources and hands-on experience. That's why I am curious if others have taken the development certification without training and what resources they used to prepare
