Is it possible to use Input boxes as a data entry mechanism which would then store the entry to an Excel cell? Anyone tried this before?
You can import the SQL 90% to qlikview and use them in a straight table object, which would include the values of the 10% manually captured (using method above).
The final object can then be exported to Master Excel file.
Though, I 'd probably (after reading your post) try and get the 10% into the database and then just create your BI based on that. Removing Excel is ALWAYS the most favourable option
As per my knowledge it is not possible but don't know if possible with macros.
It is quite possible but depending on requirements and expectations it could take much time to implement so alternatives could be more attractive. Like using third party add-ons/extensions. So could you give us an idea of your requirements?
Yes - it is possible.
The easiest and quickest method is to utilise input boxes, and store the input values to parameters, which can then be polled into a chart object and exported to Excel via a simple macro.
A more advanced method would be to store the values into parameters, then use these variables to run against an update statement stored in the load script to upload the values to a database table. This would require to be fired off by batch script etc, but it is possible - I've implemented this method previously, and would definitely suggest the first option! (my DBA says this too )
It's not very pretty or elegant, but it does the job,
Hi petter.skjolden, we are currently holding the revenues of 50 products in an Excel sheet. 90% of these product revenues come from SQL databases and so their capture is automated. 10% comes from manual sources so at the end of the day, everything is manually updated in a master Excel sheet.
Obviously if something happens to the Excel sheet, this is an issue. I also want to reduce human error when manually updating the sheet. So it would be good if the 90% automated revenues can be automatically stored in the master Excel sheet via Qlikview.
Hi graemebaxter, thanks for your suggestions. What if along with input boxes, Qlikview could take data from SQL databases (already done this part) and then update an Excel sheet instead of a database?

Yes - see reply above to Petter.
