Qlikview Publisher

Hi All:

Qlikview Publisher does the job of reloading, scheduling, and distributing qlikview docs, however if it is not purchased, this task can be performed by Qlikview server. My question is Can the qlikview server is capable of doing everything that publisher do? If yes, than why do we need a publisher and also when we should go for both Publisher and Server and when we can manage with only server. A real time scenario would suffice.

You already answered your question yourself. No, publisher can do a lot more than the standard QlikView Server.

For example, each document in the regular QlikView Server has a single reload trigger, and cannot do complex things. So what if you want a document to reload twice a day (say at 8:00 and 12:00) but only on monday, wednesday and friday?

QlikView Publisher can do that easily, along with a lot of other things. Very much worth its money when using QlikView Server in an enterprise environment.

just to add one thing - or rather, to confirm one thing you already said:

     We feel that already. We don't have it and now we can only

     - either reload a qvw once a day or once a week or

     - reload it every n hours where n can be anything you can divide 24 by ...

   That can get somewhat difficult if you need different apps at different times and your apps are dependent on one
   another in a tree-like structure. You might end up having to create copies of certain apps because you have to
   reload them for some meeting at 7am, but you have to get some interval that will land you at the beginning of one
   work_shift - and copies of essential apps means redundancy and makes the scarecrow called inconsistency rise ...

Apart from jobs scheduling,reloading any other important features available in Publisher .

1. PDF Distribution is very easy through publisher.

2. Managing the shared objects and identifying who has created what objects is very easy in QEMC.

3. Data reduction based on some field , if you want to distribute an Qlikview application to selective people based on different years, then reduction can be implemented.

4. Assigning Document license or Named License can be done only through QEMC.
