Qlikview april 2020 search not working in multibox with Edge (bug?)

Hi All,

Since the updated to April 2020 initial release (12.50.20000.0 - release/QV12-50/10) user cannot search in a multibox when start typing. Normally a user clicks on the dropdown option in a multibox to show the field values en then start typing so the search bar appears (marked red in the image below)

2020-07-02 08_41_58-Window.pngThat is still the case when I tested using IE as a browser. But the users can only use Microsoft Edge. And then the search bar doesn't appear. The weird thing is that only is with the fields "account", "Cust. group", and "productgroup".

So the first thing I've checked is the way the fields are added into the multibox. This can be done by selecting the fields and click add or by using the "expression" option. The BU field is added with the expression option and there the search option works. So that does not seems to be the problem.

The next thing I tried is recreating the multibox step by step. And at first I was able to search through all the fields. But when another user tried it wasn't possible. So I checked the Edge version. That user was using 83.0.478.56 while I was using 83.0.478.58.

Also when I moved the box to the top it wasn't possible for me to search anymore. Moving it a bit lower made it work again. I also suspect that sizing the multibox influences the performances.

My guess is that there is a bug with the multibox in Microsoft Edge related to moving and/or sizing of the object or when there is a large list of field values. Could anyone help me out please?

[update]
One of the users reported that scrolling down when the dropdown is opened and then start typing makes the searchbox appear. I tried this and indeed even with the slightest scrolling it is possible to get the search option.

Hi, I have experienced the same problem. Currently the user needs to right click on the multibox and select "search". This issue appears only using the AJAX web view.

I've seen it in three different qlikview environments in the last month. It seems like a bug and updating to QlikSense 2020 Apr. SR 1 didn't solve the issue.

We have the same issue here, the problem comes in with QlikView April 2020 SR0 and we just installed today SR2. But it didn't solved the problem.

Btw, we are using Chrome.

Too bad this issue didn't get fixed already and i hope there is any workaround because my clients are pretty angry about the "search by typing" not working anymore.

Usually I don't use multiboxes and at the moment I don't remember any usage within the current release and therefore I couldn't make a test.

The cause of the issue might be a new bug directly related to the multibox but I could imagine that it's caused through the lost of the focus after activating the object respectively it wasn't acivated at all. This may happen through new changes how the whole site is created / rendered. I believe an experieced web-developer (not me) could check this with the development-tools from the browsers.

Reasons for this new behaviour might be that there are objects which overlap each other. This is with the normal view in the desktop client not visible but with the draft-view and activating the objects are the real size of the objects shown. Another thought goes to the used releases. Is the dektop client and the server on the same release? If the releases are the same it could be further helpful to create a complete new app - maybe with any dummy-data - to check the behaviour there and to exclude that there is any incompatibility between the creating release and the now used release.

A workaround and maybe even a better solution might be the following:

I got a solution for my previous problem.

After I just deleted my browser cache, and let the QlikView Server (2020 Aprils SR2) reload all the apps through QMC, the problem with the no appearing searchbar got solved. Or at least i couldn't find it anymore.

Hope this helps.

Hi @cpfefferkorn ,

I've tried this and that didn't work.

Thanks @marcus_sommer for your reply. Both the desktop version as the server version were up to date and on the same version. It seems that upgrading to the latest version helped.

At two sites I updated to QlikView April 2020 SR2 and the problem seems to be gone. Or at least I don't hear any complaints anymore.

In the release notes I could find:

Direct free text search not working Jira issue ID: QV-20758 Description: After upgrading to QV12.50 it is not possible to directly free text search. The user needs to first click the drop-down arrow

QlikView Ajax Client: Listbox search magnifying glass disappear before you can write the search string Jira issue ID: QV-18656 Description: When list box objects were included in a container, search entry could sometimes be interrupted.

Maybe that one of those fixed it. But I'm not sure.
