Regarding choosing between Pivot Table and Straight Table.

Does it help improve performance or reduce response time if we use a pivot table with dimensions collapsed instead of a Straight table.

Only testing can answer that!

Pivot with collapsed dimensions againts a straight table should be tested for perfomance.

Generally straight tables have better perfomance than pivot tables, but they serve different purposes. So there is no straight answer to your question! If you need a pivot then you must use a pivot regardless of perfomance. if you don't need a pivot then definitely use a straight table.
