Section Access

Hi,

I'm looking to see if its possible to link a section access password with a persons Windows OS account password.

I have the NTName feature already involved but just as another security feature I would like to have the USER and PASSWORD of Qlikview built in also but would be great if I could inptut some code to make it the same as the Windows OS password again.

Hi James,

I'm not aware of a possibility to pass any passwords to QlikView, that would have been very helpful to me in the past (to open encrypted Excel files).

If you have a policy in place enforcing a change of the OS_password every xx days, that will be difficult.

But - to what end? If you put in a second security in addition to the OS_password and then make that the same as the OS_password - what is the use of it? You'd end up with the same result you have now, no?

Well, I guess the users would have to input it again - but the same as their OS_password.

Best regards,

Hi James,

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't think is possible to get the Windows OS Password and link that password with Section Access. Perhaps what you can implement is a NTNAME and PASSWORD witch NTNAME is the Windows OS UserName and PASSWORD is exactly equal as the Windows OS Password if you know in advance what is your Windows OS Password.

Thanks,

Miguel.

Thanks guys,

Re: DataNibbler and Miguel

I understand that the NTName will effectively be doing the same thing as having a password the same as an OS system however I am just asked to put in these extra security features and preferably as painless as possible. I was hoping for a code method for Qlik view to automatically link passwords as a manual input method will be tedious to say the least. I was aware it was an ambitious ask and thanks for the reply!

Is it possible for those who have logged in online to view a qlikview document to in a sense over ride the script and manually change a password for access to a certain dashboard document?

Hi James,

that might be possible.

But to be honest - it seems that whoever gave you that task does not really want to have to input another password? Then I would say they should think once again because a password that is in some way inserted automatically is not really adding any security. With the NT_password, only one person can access the dashboard. Given the employees in your company do not swap passwords, that should be secure enough. If they do - well, in that case two passwords would be no better than one.
