Instead of answering your questions, let me explain what happens with the license number.

The license number is a big unique number that identifies you as a Qlik customer. It doesn't contain data by itself, it only serves as an index in a licensing database maintained by and located at Qlik. Whenever you need to tell the QlikView Server how many CALs you currently have at your disposal (during the first activation of QlikView server), you need to send this number to Qlik, which will lookup your allowances in this database and send your QVS an overview of product types, maintenance end dates, optionally license expiration dates and attached CALs. That's the LEF.

In order to make sure that you are the one that is using the license number, Qlik pairs it with a control number. The control number is a "secret" verification that belongs to your license number. You can never use the license number by itself. You always have to supply the control number with it. Keep it to yourself, or someone may run off with your QlikView license.

The beauty of the system is that license number nor control number will change if you buy additional CALs, or upgrade your server to something bigger. Qlik will add these extensions to its database, and you will need to upgrade your License information by letting QMC contact Qlik once again. That's why in QMC there is an update button too.

Another example is the SIB Sales fase, during which Qlik will grant you a free license for a limited time to evaluate QlikView before you decide to buy it. The license number will probably be the final one. After you decide to buy QlikView with a number of CALs, Qlik will convert your license information from a temporary one to a perpetual one, and add the required number of CALs. You just need to enter the control number again (it will always disappear from the QMC page for reasons of safety) and click the Update button. The text in the central window will change to reflect what's in the Qlik database.

If you don't have internet access, ask your Qlik partner for a LEF file that corresponds to your current license number. Enter the license number, control number and the LEF text, click Apply and you're on your way.

Have read this document, does not help about my error...

Colin-Albert

You will need to renter the control number when you change the LEF file. The control number will have been sent tonyou withbyour original licence from QlikView.

Otherwise I suggest you raise a support ticket with Qlik support or through your partner reseller.

i did not get you... "You will need to renter the control number when you change the LEF file?"

yes, i have License Key and control number, and i can generate LEF from QlikTeck Provided url...

if i generate LEF file 10 times, i think each time it will remain same...

Thanks

Colin-Albert

If your server is connected to the internet, you should not need to download the lef file, the server will update the lef automatically.

You need to open the qmc to apply the licence. On the licence page, enter the licence key and control number, when you click apply licence, the lef file will be downloaded.

No, just make sure that your server is connected to the internet (https), enter the big license number, the control number and some identification in the two input fields at the bottom, and select Apply. The central text field will be updated automatically as soon as the QMC gets the license information from the Qlik licensing servers.

Good luck,

Peter
