What are shape files and why is it required in Qlikmaps?
Also How can we generate shape file?
You can find out what shape files are here: Shapefile - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
You are not required to use shape files with QlikMaps. QlikMaps supports other geo data sources as well. Ask the vendor or a QlikMaps consultant for more information.
Hi Biren,
This is Trey with the QlikMaps team from Analytics8 (QlikMaps.com). First, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. We get most of our QlikMpas related questions from our support portal (support.analytics8.com) and I have not done a great job of monitoring the community for such questions. That will change now as I'm going to put much more effort in to monitoring the community for such questions.
Shape (shp) is actually a file extension used in some Geo Spatial tools to draw the shapes, or polygons, used to represent an Area on a map. QlikMaps actually doesn't make use of .shp files directly since they are extremely inefficient for an in memory tool like QlikView.
Instead, we have built a Global Boundary Library of optimized polygons stored in standard .qvd files on our download site (qlikmaps.com/download). Log in using your QlikMaps login and download the 'boundary' file you need. If, however, we are missing the particular polygon you need in our Global Boundary File Library, our Knowledge Base (QlikMaps.com/docs) has tutorials using free tools to turn any .shp file into an optimized .qvd to be used with QlikMaps.
Hi Trey,
I am struggling to find the documentation to convert the .shp file directly into optimized QVD.
Can you point me to the documentation directly?
For documentation go to QlikMaps.com/docs and look under the Geocoding and Custom Polygons section for directions. If you need additional help, reach out to us at support.analytics8.com.
