I've created a QVW and gave the sheet backgrounds a one-color gradient. When I switch to web view, the background displays as all white. Even when I try to change the background to another color in web view it remains white. I need to figure out how to make web view display the same color scheme as desktop view.
I also recognized that gradient colour for the background disappears in the AJAX Client. I guess Ajax can't display this. Your workaround is probably the only way to integrate a nice background into an application for the webview.
I worked around the problem by creating a .png file with the background color I wanted and using the image file as a Wallpaper Image (Document Settings). It displays correctly in web view. I would still like to know if others have encountered the problem with the disappearing sheet background color and how they have handled it.
