Sorting Pie Chart - no behaving as expected

Dear all,

Am trying to sort a pie chart to display in descending order.

The chart itself has two expressions, using a cyclical group. Ideally would like to sort by descending spend / volume (depending on the selected cyclic group value).

Have a number of posts re similar sorting issues, although doesn't appear to solve my issues:

("Uncheck the "Bar" tick in the expression (so there will be no new bar with this value), and check "Values on Data Points". Now promote this expression to the first place.")

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Kind regards,

Rich

Hello Rich,

The Graph is actually sorted fine. Take the pie chart, clockwise, starting at 12 o'clock (pretend) the highest value is the first. Next value clockwise is the second, and so on. See this way: the biggest slice is first, then the second, and so.

And do otherwise: now order by Y-Value ascending. The smallest slice will be first, increasing size clockwise, so the last one (at the left of 12 o'clock) is the biggest slice (highest value).

Is that correct? Are you trying to get some other sorting?

Hi Miguel,

Thanks for your response! When looking at the legend, do you see the values as sorted descending?

ie does "Other" appear top of the list (value = 100), or does it display as the 2nd value in the legend (after Supplier 1 = 90)?

This is how it is displayed on my version (having sorted it by descending Y value):

My expectation would have been to see "Other" as the first slice...?

Does it display differently in your version?

Please advise,

Kind regards,

Rich

Yes, I see first "Other" first if "Top x" is equal to 3.

If I set it to 10, Supplier 1 is first with 90 T (Top x Volume). So it might be something related to v8.5 (I don't have it to test).

Works fine if I just change sort order to Y-Value Ascending (smallest first).

Hi Miguel,

Many thanks for taking the time to have a look!

I guess perhaps its a bug in QV v8.5 (as logically everything seems correct, but just doesn't behave as I would expect) - unless anyone can tell me otherwise...

regardless of this, many thanks!

Kind regards,

Rich
