Sums up to year to date

Hello guys,

I have this dashboard that displays data based on selected year/month/quarter.

The TOTAL (MONTH) text object displays sums of quantity based on the selected year/month/quarter.

The TOTAL (YTD) text object, however, will display year to date sums of all the quantities, in example :

If the year/month selected is 2012/JAN it will display sums of quantities up to JAN/2012. If the year/month selected is 2012/FEB it will display sums of 2012/JAN + 2012/FEB and so forth for the particular year.

While I was able to express the sums based on the month, can somebody give any opinions on how to calculate the year to date sum like I have described?

I would suggest to use island data as selection box field.
