Dear All
I am new to Qlikview and I may have a silly questions to ask.
My company is using Symantec Backup exec version 12 to backup data on Qlikview. My colleagues who are dealing with the backup has informed that backup failed a few times and he claimed that this is because Symantec needed a special agent to backup Qlikview data.
To my knowledge Qlikview data should be as good as all other "normal" data which does requires special tools or agent.
But I may be wrong, therefore, I seek all Qlikview experts in this forum to correct or educate me on this portion.
Thank you.
Hi,
I have used windows backup utility. Usually we backup the application without data and restore it. Am not sure about the symantec. May be it fails if you have large volume of data.
Refer here https://community.qlik.com/thread/63289 and it may be related to your question.
QlikView comprises simply files stored in NTFS, and as such needs no special agent.
Backup Exec 12 is quite old, not sure whether you can still buy agents for that version...
What agent do your admins tell you they need for backing up QlikView files?
Peter
There shouldn't be any problem, as long as the backup software can cope with files that are in use/open.
Some of the QV Server files are basically kept open like the PGOs and can cause QV problems with its not able to write them to disk whenever it wants too.
I think you aren't talking about an agent but about an option called AOFO (Advanced Open File Option). This is the snapshotting option that takes care of files that are in use. IIRC most BE12 packages had this included by default and this option will probably be in use already.Otherwise you cannot backup an excel file that is open at the time of the backup.
I can't imagine what other agents/options/addons you should need to backup a QlikView environment...
