User CALs and Document CALs

Hi,

I have 38 User CALs and 101 Document CALS. My user CALS are fully allocated and I only have 5 document CALS left.

My question is: If I remove user CALs does it free up document CALs? Some users with user CALs really only need a few doc CALs instead.

Thank you!

No. Named CALs and Document CALs are fixed, they cannot be exchanged. Freeing up one Named CAL will return it to the free CALs pool as a Named CAL. Not as n Document CALs.

You can however free up a few Named CALs by determining which Named CAL users have access to only one or two documents, and assigning Document CALs to them. Ideally, you find 5 users with Named CALs that only need access to a single document, you remove the Named CAL assignment and give them a Document CAL for the QVW they need.

If you're out of CALs, decide on which ones you need and how many, and contact your Qlik partner.

Are you setup dynamic CAL allocation ?

The CAL assignments are distinct and the quantity cannot change without QLIK involvement.

If you disassociate a user from a NAMED Cal, and you still want that user to have access to 1 or more dashboards,  then you need to consume one or more of the 5 document CALs , no more are added.

I think what you want is for  Qlik to restructure your CAL list so that you have more document CALs and fewer Named CALs.  That requires a discussion with your vendor.

In QLik Sense, the token can be subdivided into login passes or serve as a single user pass. Perhaps that licensing model (QLik Sense only) is what you are after

Hi Lee

I don't think this will happen. I suggest you to review your allocation to see what can be done.

Use the QVSCalManager to help you. You can find it here.
