Variable Evaluation in Chart

I'm having trouble getting a variable to evaluate in a chart as the same IF statement would. Could you look at the attached and tell me what I'm misunderstanding about how variables evaluate?

vSEL_RATE doesn't evaluate as the same IF statement does in the column next to it, but a similar variable with text does.

Try just removing '=' from it's definition.

your Variable vSEL_RATE starts with a "=", drop this sign and it works like the other variable definitions

Thanks you. Very simple, and I should've tried it! Are you able to explain what this is telling QlikView to do?
