Why does a pivot table have a big X and refresh button?

In trying to manipulate pivot tables (in one case to swap the rows and columns) I occasionally get a a big grey X through the middle and a little refresh button and what I was trying to do doesn't work.  What am I missing here about the table and what is allowed and not.

Thanks!

This ussually happens when your trying to show a lot of data or your expression gets slows because using many conditions.

Try to do the calculus in the script and not in the tables.

Then why would it be okay until I try to swap the rows and columns?

Can you post a screenshot of the table? (Before the problem).

May be Swaping of rows and columns won't show you desired results.

Here is a shot of the table.  I have month as the dimension and the current and prior FY as expressions, but I would prefer to swap the rows and colums.  Ultimately I want to calculate the % difference from prior year (as an expression), but would visually like that to appear as a row.

I'm not sure if you can get what you want from a Pivot table, but you can with a Straight Table. Change the type to Straight Table and check "Horizontal" on the Presentation tab.
