Write back functionality outside of corporate network
Hi All,
I appreciate that writting back to the a SQL database has been covered in several threads. Whilst these threads highlight that it is possible via a macro and is suggested it can be done more elegantly via a extension using a webservice. I have a few questions to get into a bit more detail:
1. Clearly QlikView is not primarily here to be a data capture tool. Should using QlikView to input data onto a SQL database always be avoided? Is there ever a good reason to do it?
2. A client is interested in having external customers login to a QlikView dashboard. There the customer will make osme updates that write to the database. Clearly they will have only very restricted write access. My understanding is that macros do not work in web. Therefore if I want to do this I will need the customers to either be using a copy of QlikView or via extensions.
3. Does anyone have any examples, tutorials for how you can use a web service to write to a database. What are the draw backs and limitations of this?
Thanks for your help. I have tried to look for the answer on the forums but nothing seems to go into this much details.
