need help with conditions

What does the "Calculation Condition" part in a straight chart do exactly?

I have some expressions in a straight chart with a condition on them to display only when selected. It's slowing down the chart quite a bit because it has to calculate that field even though it is not shown. Can I use the "Calculation Condition" to not calculate when it is not shown on the chart? If so, what condition can I use?

Typing an expression in this text box sets a condition that needs to be fulfilled for the chart to be displayed. If the condition is not fulfilled, the text "Calculation condition unfulfilled" will be displayed in the chart. The value may be entered as a calculated formula
