rookie question - dynamically determine variable value in doing a sum

this may be a rookie question, so your patience is greatly appreciated- I'm trying to dynamicaly determine the current month (November) and then do a total only for that month..here's the expression i'm using ...=Sum({$<Month={'date(Today(),"MMMM")'}>} [Total WO]) ..obviously doing something wrong...
