sorting doubts

Hi Experts,

We have many straight and pivot charts that should be sorted by a amount column(in descending). In few pivot charts the dimensions are put in holizonal(dragged above expressions in chart).

1. I tried to sort the charts by promoting the amount column on the top in the sort tab and enabling numberic checkbox. However this doesnt work for all the charts. Once after applying the above changes, i see the sorting is successful, but when i close and open the qlikview document, the sorting is gone.

2. I think i am not clear with basics of sorting. Any suggestions of blogs or documents pls?

3. In pivot the expressions are not visibie in sort tab, dont know why?

4. Also what mean by Y-Value in sort tab in comparison to bar chart?

Hi Suraj,

As u have mentioned u have both straight and pivot table ,

In pivot table you can not sort in a way whaever you want.You have to sort like 1st dim,2nd dim...

in order.

So you mean in pivot table, in sort tab I have to order the dimensions.

Suppose if i want to sort by expression(say in my eg- Amount column), how can i do this using pivot table?

You have to go by order while sorting u will not sort whaever u want otherwise straight table would be best option.

Remember pivot table is better for grouping and straight table will be better for sorting.

As per your requirement u need to make the selection.
