variables assigned with colors not working

Hi I have created variables for colors to be used in my dashboard template. I added those variables in the variable overview and tried using in the calculated expression in color area property. However, the color values are not getting resolved. Kindly let me know what could be the issue here? (I m using QDF however, no variables are being added in custom.variables.csv)
