Copying QVW file from Server

Hi,

I am trying to copy my application file which is of 3GB in the remote location to an external disk. But it is taking tooooo long time and it is getting cancelled when the remote server sessions time out. Is there any alternate / quick way to copy my file to external disk?

Regards,

Malathi

Hi,

You can reduce the data and can copy it. To reduce it go to File Menu-> Reduce  and select any of Keep Possible Values (If some selection is done) or Remove All Vlaues.

Save it with some other name and copy it.

Other way is by creating a .prj folder and copying it and creating a blank file with the same name as of the dashboard file.

Opening the dashboard file u can see all the objects present.

Thanks

Hi,

Right Click app on the QlikView App home and select the option Open "filename" without data. it will load the app without data now save the file in to ur external disk.

again set the data resources to ur qvw file which is in External disc. now you can load the file wid data

Hope it helps

Hi

If you want to transfer the application with all the data -

Check what type of compression is applied to your qvw file Go to Document Properties and on the General tab, make sure that the Compression is set to high. It may improve your transfer times.

But why is the receiving server timing out? Surely, the session should remain active as long as data is being transferred.

Hi Amar,

I am in a similar situation. I know how to re-create a qvw from -prj folder. But the problem is with regards to prj folder.

This is how I create a prj folder. create a folder...name -prj and then open the qvw file and save it. But I cannot open the file from server as it is very large and I am working on a laptop with not much RAM.

Kindly let me know if there is a way to create prj folder without needing to open the file.

Thanks,

Sree

Recreate QlikView application (QVW) file from the PRJ folder

  1. If the QVW still exists, rename it to something that does not match the PRJ folder name. For example add a underscore to the file name, mainly to enable reverting to the original file if required later. User-added image
  2. Open QlikView desktop client
  3. Create a new document
  4. Save the document with the same name as the PRJ Folder. For example so that you get a file structure as the image below. User-added image
  5. Close the QlikView application, without saving the document again if prompted. This triggers importing the data from the PRJ folder to the QVW file.
  6. Reopen the QVW file to validate that the file has been restored
