Data Loading Strategy: Layered QVD Script or External ETL

Hi Guys

We know Qlikview has advantage of built-in ETL capability through loading script and has its own data storage mechanism which is QVD file. So when to use external ETL, when to use layered QVD script?

My understanding is:

1. External ETL tools can provide more advanced or specific ETL capability which Qlikview may not able to provide, in case this happens we can use External ETL process;

2. Layered QVD process can be seen as the equivelant structure of ETL process we used before so it also inherit the advantage of layered structure of ETL design. In addition to this, layered QVD process has the capability to handle link table, lookup, slowly changing dimension in its own way; QVD has the advantage of incremental load on the performance.

3. Regarding development speed, I don't think the two has big difference.

One drawback of QVD development is that it is based on pure script, without a visualized modelling infrastructure. This needs to be enhanced.

Please share what you think.
