Grouping objects in Qlikview

Hi there

Does anyone know of a way to group objects in Qlickview so that if you have 3 tables that relate to each other they can all be minimized, maximized and moved around together? I have looked for ways of doing this but can not find any grouping settings.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Dan

are you talking about minimising or maxmising charts or pivot tables.

if so, you can do that using a button option, add action and give minimise or maximise then you select the object you want to minimise or maximise,

if you want more that two objects tobe mini or maximised then select more than one action and give the actions accordingly.

Hi Ranjit

Thanks for the reply, what i need to know is how to group 3 tables together so that they minimise and maximise together and not one at the time.

Hi Sanchez,

I dint get your question still, are those pivot tables or your internal table where you fetch data.??

Hi,

a) try to use triggers or actions (QV9). For example create a (minimize-)Button with three Minimize Object - Actions. See tab Actions --> add action --> choose layout and minimize action. Create a second Button with three maximize-Actions.

b) Like a) --> look at Documents Properties --> Triggers for more possibilities

c) in addition: In QV10 you will have a new object called container object to bind more chart objects together. Unfortunaly I do not have any experiance yet.

The QV10 container object can contain several different objects of different types (charts or listboxes for instance).

But the container object only shows one object at a time, so it is not useful for this purpose.

Hi Göran,

thanks.

Means using actions (and perhaps macros) is also actuell in QV10

It's frustrating that QV doesn't allow maximizing/minimizing groups of objects. I had hoped that v10 would offer this functionality especially having read that it is possible to group objects together but it sounds like it doesn't.

I generally use a button which sets a variable and then use conditional show to overcome this problem. However, this is not always appropraiate.

My experience of actions/triggers is quite negative. They have many limitations which makes them pretty useless.

Maybe in v11 this will be addressed.

It is a really flaw that a program where an important part of it is graphic, that they do not offers these simple tools like easy grouping, guides and select objects behind another layer. Never seen something that bad. Qlik should team up with like QuarkXpress or similiar professional tool.

Anyway if you hold shift down before resize an object it will change all objects, thought not the one where you have marked not allowed Move/Size.

Hi,

Why don't you use conditional enabling for objects,so when needed will be visible.

Set a variable say vShowObjects and set it to '1'.

Create your 2 (or more) grouped objects as normal

Next Go to Object Properties > under the show  >  conditional  > Layout > Show enter 'vShowObjects=1'

So now both objects will only be visible if the variable = 1.

To control set a button to alter the variable via an Action to set the variable to '0' - this will cause the objects to be invisible.

Another button then appears (set to show when vShow Objects =0 which runs an action to set the variable back to =1...making the objects to be visible.

Need help with the macro script. Look at the 'API Guide'.
