I have developed reports that require tracking of historical data through simple trend charts and wanted to know if I can link my qvw files to an internet address where the raw data can be stored. The data is coming from suppliers and to avoid the manual "Send Excel to my email" ---then update into my database, I would like the supplier to just upload the data in an internet address or any collaborative site then my qvw file can connect to that directly.
I have tried doing this by using the Web Link option when connecting to a database, but the qvw file cannot access the excel file, it says, cannot access BIF file or something like that. My hunch is that there is a credential needed to access the files in the site.
So my question is, can I program QVW to enable it to connect to the link via the credentials needed or is Qlikview only going to work on non-protected weblinks?
