Hi Bob,

As your using 11 SR2 you could look to upgrade to 11.2 SR15, lots the usual bug fixes and some performance improvements, plus the ability to get reload resource usage stats which help to see how much your reloads are actually using.

If you have a publisher licence as part of your QV server, you could look to move this part onto a separate server, which will give you a server just for reloads, and another for the other services and users.

If your server is spending alot of time at 100% this will cause problems and windows can start to fail when the hardware is under very heavy load, so you could also look at optimising your apps.

Server sizing is tricky as there are alot of factors to consider and varies per installation.

You'd also need to consider the load your users are placing on the server, in addition to the resources needed by the reloads.

There are Qlik partners available who may be able to assist you, and lots of posts on the community about this such as Correctly sizing a QlikView Publisher server .

Hello Bob,

From your uploaded logs:

Log -Lots of waiting for a reload engine, then it eventually aborted after waiting 45mins to get an engine

Log2 -Same as the first log, Lots of waiting for a reload engine, then it eventually aborted after waiting 45mins to get an engine

Log3 -Message about killing the qlikview engine, but it doesn't say why

Based on the fact that two of these reloads failed as they couldn't get a reload engine, I'd assume that your server is very busy, which can also have knock on effects for users in the AccessPoint and performance of the whole server.

Are there sufficient RAM and CPU for this load? What version of QV are you using? do you have the ability to re-schedule some of the reloads for a quieter time on the server?

If the resources are ok and the problem is more the duration of the existing reloads, then you could look to increase the number of reload engines from 4, but this could also add additional load to your server and increase reload times further.

Hi Peter, thanks for the swift response. We are using 11.00 SR2, Ya its a pretty old version. CPU usage is also going up to 100% in publisher and distribution server, where we reload QVW.

Before upgrading QV Version, am actually thinking to upgrade hardware in servers. kindly let me know if am thinking right !

Is there any document which helps to calculate and estimate hardware requirements in accordance with our QVW's and tasks.

Thanks

Hi Peter, this document really helped in my RCA.

This is clearly Hardware resources issue and this is really bad in my case. I have a huge Pagefile in almost all the servers.

  • Am going to start by monitoring RAM and CPU while individual tasks while running.
  • Optimize the QVW’s.
  • Upgrade QlikView version.

In the meanwhile, could you suggest on how to fix/reduce Pagefile ? since, this is clearly an issue here which is generated because of insufficient RAM. Below is the scenario.

Really appreciate your help.

Hi Bob,

From this and your other posts it looks like you've got a busy implementation + clustering.

The later versions of QV 11.2 do have general performance improvements for large implementations like this so might help you, as will your steps of reviewing the QVWs and processes.

The windows pagefile is usually automatically handled by windows and could even be a reflection of the amount of system ram you have.

Your post also mentions virtual servers and there are additional configuration change you can make to the VMs to improve performance, should be lots of community documents about this topic.

I'd advise you engage with a Qlik Partner who has experience and can help you in all the above areas
