Time Chart

Hi

I would like to visualize the use of a machine during the course of the month by showing the actual hours/minutes used versus the unused times. My idea is somehow the following chart:

The x-axis would hold the dates (1-30) while the y-axis would simply be a zero or one. Potentially, I could combine various machines on top of each other.

The above sample was done in Excel, but if I use a datetime field for the x-axis, it is not displayed as it should. If I use a simple integer, it does do it, but then the axis values are not meaningful.

The data I have is in the following format:

Machine Name        DateTime On            DateTime Off

Machine 1               15.9.2014 02:21       15.9.2014 04:27

Machine 1               17.9.2014 14:50       17.9.2014 17:25

etc. etc.

What would be your approach for the data model and the chart?

Any hints highly appreciated.

Thanks

Matthias

Hi Jordi

Thanks for your prompt reply. It looks kinda interesting, though it is not exactly what I'm looking for.

How about if the machine is in use over midnight? I would have to split the data record then, no?

And it would also be difficult with multiple machines (there are 34 at the moment). I guess this model is really only for a single or maximum 2 machines.

Hi Mathias,

Maybe this post can help you: http://community.qlik.com/thread/97773

There's a lot of charts. Maybe you can extract some idea.

Thanks a lot.

I did find the Gantt Chart which is kinda in that direction, though it does not show the individual usages on the same line. I got something like this right now.

So I'm already pretty close.
