count number of patients between death event

I need to count the number of patients between deaths.

Any ideas?

This table is called Death_BH and is read from a local Oracle db

So, please, any scripts should be in sql load format.

I am thinking there has to be a way to do this using Above ()...

in the real data set, PAT_ID are not nice like 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 but rather 12345678, 65647586, 239764857, 37927823 etc
