Different version of Qlikview Salesforce Connector?

Hi:

I move to a new machine for development purpose only recently and I download and install the Qlikview Salesforce Connector from the Qlik official website.

I found out that the interface is different from what I used to have.

At first I thought this is just a new face lift from the old one but later I found that the links created in the new and old machine don't seems to be interchangeable. I cannot use the old link in my new machine and the newly created link doesn't work in the old machine.

Then I found out that the name of the connector in Script Editor is different:

The old one is called: SalesForceDLL.dll (64)

The new one is called: QvSalesforceConnector.exe (64) (Qlik Salesforce ...

Here are my questions:

What are the difference between these two connectors?

Is one of them an updated version of the other one or they are completely different?

How is the compatibility works?

Which one should I use?

Thank you very much.

Hi PC,

I am finding out that these are different. The new connector, version 12, doesn't allow the opportunity to set the API version, whereas the older connector, version 11, does, to an extent. The release notes say V11 only works with API version 26 or lower but in truth it works with API version 32 too. I found this out the hard way...trying the new version and then getting errors because some fields were no longer visible/available. I have since reverted to version 11 and will stay there until a better version comes along. For me, V11 is fine. YMMV.

Hi PC,

Yes they are in fact different and QvSalesforceConnector.exe (64) will be the standard moving forward. The latest version of the connector has been built on QlikViews QVX (QlikView Data Exchange) protocol to help maintain consistency moving forward. The latest connector also introduces the ability to use the Bulk API and a few other small features. In terms of queries and QlikView script the latest connector should work fine with your existing QVWs but you will need to recreate the connection string. Moving forward I would recommend using this one (unless of course you experience any major issues)

Thanks

Hi Nick,

Can you tell which SFDC API version this new connector supports? It doesn't appear to support beyond version 29 as it seems like it doesn't support API version 30 and above. There is no selector for it, nor does the documentation specify. When I used it I did not see those fields supported in version 30. In order to get around that I had to revert to version 11 and force API version 30 (actually to the current version of 32).

John

Hi John,

As I understand it if you want to use a specific version you need to specify a URL in the connection window. There's nothing in the documentation that references the version number specifically but if you know the complete URL for the instance you should be able to put it here to override the default. This is also how you connect to your sandbox environments of SFDC.

I hope that helps.

Thanks

Nick
