There seems to be two questions here: Copying and pasting objects from the QlikView client into Office products, or copying and pasting objects from the IE Plugin to Office. The former, as chrisbrain and others have mentioned, is well-documented and easy to do.

If this question is about the IE plugin/AJAX/Java and new Version 9 capability, I suggest asking the question in the Beta community at beta.qlik.com. You need to go here first to sign up if you haven't already.

If you right click on an object in QlikView you should have a 'Copy to Clipboard -> Object' option - if this is enabled you should be able to copy the object and then do a standard paste of the live object into an office application.

I have tried this successfully in Excel.

Good point - I didn't appreciate the behaviour was different in the plugin!

Now that QlikView 9 is a general release I have installed both the plugin and desktop client on a clean machine (VM). But now I can't seem to drag and drop from either of the clients into Excel 2003, although the manual states both should be possible.

Is there anything special I need to do to activate/enable this drag and drop functionality? (it seemed ok in 8.5)

I'll answer my own question here then. After speaking with support it seems that this is a bug in QlikView 9 and I am awaiting a Bug ID and estimated fix date.
