Load balance

Hello

Got 2 server machines BI and BI2

we have created a cluster (licence with server cluster enabled)

on BI we installed all Qlik Services

Now Development is carried on also on BI machine

How can I force users browsing the dashboards via their browsers to be redirected only to BI2?

Please advise

Then what is the use of having a Cluster if you're not load balancing QVS? Or do you load balance the Publisher as well?

I was thinking if I install QlikView web server service on BI2 machine, will this make it a primary machine for end users?

What do you mean by "Primary machine"? The Web service only supplies the AccessPoint static content to end-users. In addition to that, and on condition that you have a cluster license and multiple QVS machines, the web server will forward users to one of the configured cluster node QVS machines based on the selected load balancing strategy. That's the most simple QVS clustering setup.

But as soon as you start clustering machines, there is a primary machine in name only because that's the one you configure first in QMC. Not because it has any special function or because it'll do more work than the others.

the thing is that BI's RAM is hitting 100% while BI2 is only 30% of the RAM is used and BI2 is more powerful than BI in terms of specs (CPU and RAM)

For the active QVWS, which I understand is on BI2, you should be able to configure to redirect the user to the QVS with the least load.

QMC > System > Setup > Expand QlikView Web Servers > Click QVWS node > AccessPoint > Server Connections.

Here you will have three options as to how it balances load:

CPU with RAM Overload, meaning that the client is directed to the least busy QVS.

Loaded Document, meaning that the client is directed to the QVS in which the requested document is already loaded.

Random, meaning that the client is directed to a QVS randomly.

Make sure your nodes is configured to balance with "CPU with RAM overload", which should redirect a new user to the least busy server.

Just stop the 'QV Server service' (not all) on BI machine since you have server cluster automatically BI2 will take responsibility.

Whenever you plan to bring it back just start the service on BI.
