Losing Bookmarks that have previously worked

I have two users who have bookmarks that no longer load.

I suspect that this is due to the data structure changing.

Is there a way of "interrogating" the metadata using a certain tool.

I can open the metadata file in  a product such as Notepad++ and see the "title" of the bookmark, but beyond that there is a lot of hierogliphics and weird characters.

If i can open the metadata file i am assuming i should be able to see the parameters of the bookmark.

Any advice gratefully received.

On a similar subject i noticed that the metadata file is 17meg(sales.qvw.shared) and the qvw is 34 meg(sales.qvw).

Does anyone else have such a huge metadata file.

NB the sales.qvw.meta is 4 kb !!!!!!

Thanks in advance

Yes, search for PowerTools here in Community.

There´s a tool called SharedFileViewer to inspect your shared files

The powertools is what you need to use to look at the .share files. However, the correct way to remove them is through the QMC.

Have you added a field and set it to "Always one selected value"?  This would render existing bookmarks useless.

I also recommend to remove the objects on the .shared file through the QMC.

In addition to that I find very very useful the .shared file cleaning tool introduced since 11.2 SR4 version.

You can find a tutorial on how to use it on the Release Notes of 11.2 SR4 and 11.2 SR5.

Hello

I have done some further investigation on this now using Qlikview
powertools utility.

This allows me to interrogate the bookmarks from the shared file.

One user has 3 blank bookmarks out of a total of 39.

The possibilities i can see are as follows:-

  1. 1. The user deleted the bookmark parameters then "replaced" with a blank bookmark
    (unlikely)
  2. 2. The shared file didn't update correctly.

We have a "cluster" and i wonder whether a single "shared" file if updated simultaneously by 2 users could cause an issue.?

Does anybody else have experience of this ?

Thanks n advance

Are you using inputfields?

No Input Fields - just standard set analysis...all very simple stuff

Don't mean to repeat myself, but, if you are running version 11.2 SR4 or later, could you please follow this procedure:

1) Copy the QVS.exe file into a backup folder (let's say c:\Temp)

2) Copy the .shared file you want to analyze in the same folder (c:\Temp again).

3) Execute "c:\Temp\QVS.exe" -x "c:\Temp\shared_file_to_analize.shared" -v on cmd

4) Share here the result of the log file.

You can find detailed information about this process here:

Hello

Thanks for the advise which i understand

However...does this procedure have to be done on a Qlikview server.

I am a little nervous of a command line running on a production server?

Please advise
